I put a DIY algae reactor on my nano 3 months ago and I just did my first harvest.

Day one:

Today

This nano is a softy tank running the reactor and a HOB Reef octopus skimmer and live rock for filtration.

0 ammonia
0 nitrites
Undetectable with my API nitrate test kit
.03 phosphate

Very happy with the results. Hopefully the next few months will yield more growth.

Nice! I would be interested in knowing more about how you built the reactor. Also how you have it plumbed into your nano.

What are you using for a reactor chamber? I considered making one for my tank but had second thoughts after Myk warned of cheaper reactor containers becoming brittle and cracking due to the heat from the lights... curious to see your long term results!

As long as the reactor is placed above the tank or a fuge then if it cracks it shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure there's ways around that. I'm interested to know if it is more of an expert than a normal refugium. I run a 30 gallon long refugium I'm curious if reactors would be any help

I bought a used reactor online not even sure of the maker. I think I paid 20 bucks for it it is approx. 2 feet tall 4 inches wide I then bought a LED light strip from Amazon that has a Plant growing spectrum here is the link for it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LO5...UTF8&psc=1

I used zip ties on the top and bottom of the canister to hold the light in place. The side the lights are on is rubberized so it sticks to the acrylic quite well without any adhesive. I run the light off cycle of my Tank lights and I pretty much forgot about it.

The water is always crystal clear. I am thinking about removing the skimmer all together and see if the reactor can do most of the work with a slight increase in my water change schedule.
