Anyone have experience with these little buggers? I've never had any issues (aside from their presence) until I brought home a few acros from FFM this year. After a couple weeks I noticed one of the acros was bleaching at the base... and a few days later was dead. Thinking it was lighting or alk/cal .. began looking into all the parameters.. which were all ok. Two days ago I noticed another acan was blotchy (not just the base).. The next day I see a little starfish at the base of a third acan. It appears I may have found the culprit.. of course there are a lot of mixed comments online to include the many species that are or are not reef safe.

... so on to removal... tweezed about 100 out .. there are easily 5 times that left in the tank. Will I reasonably be able to keep them from my acros by manually removing? Should I go the harlequin shrimp route? Any advice would be appreciated!

Harlequin shrimp are cool and I’ve heard they work very well but They don’t eat much else. You would have to supplement with other star fish. I’m not sure of anything else that you could get to eat those little buggers.

Thanks Drew.. that's why I'm reluctant to get the Harlequins .. they are pretty neat looking... I also have brittle and serpent stars in the tank.

I don’t no if the harlequin would eat the bristle star but u could always get a cheap chocolate chip star and put it in your sump until feeding time. I’ve heard of people doing that and just cutting of leg pieces as they need. Just a thought
