Well depends. I really wouldn't bother w/ anything less than a - for instance, Garrett ACE 250. I don't recall price for one...

I ended up getting an AT Pro and consider I went 2 - 3 days a week for my 1st 2 mos. and found enough treasure  to pawn to pay for it and a pinpointer. Colonial is the place to shop!

Maybe someday I will upgrade to a Minelab CTX but $2k+ isn't in the cards right now:

The reason I would stay away from really cheap MD's is that they do not scan very deep, are inaccurate, nearly useless in highly mineralized substrates - like wet beach sand, and I couldn't bare the thought of spending hours and hours MD'ing and walking right over valuable finds and never even hearing them. A friend had a Bounty Hunter and he followed me around a cellar hole / old property and nearly every "good" signal I heard, I had him scan the same spot and he didn't hear anything. Luckily he was able to return it to ... Cabala's I think...

if anyone out there has one and or looking for some info for good beginner ones i am now well informed and get discounts with some places. most people will buy a cheap one thinking there going to find gold right off the back but that is not the case. time and research will pay off. ive got 4 of my family members hooked in less then a year because i do my homework and let them have the fun with some of the best finds.
